Florida State football has faced significant challenges this season, failing to meet the high expectations set during preseason. The Seminoles currently hold a 1-5 record, with defeats against Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, SMU, and Clemson.
Last year, Florida State enjoyed an undefeated regular season and won a conference championship, finishing with a combined record of 23-4 over the past two seasons.
The pressing issue is that recruits need motivation to choose Florida State. While the Seminoles have a strong legacy as a top-15 program in college football, this marks the third tough start in five years for head coach Mike Norvell during his time in Tallahassee.
Recently, the Seminoles have seen several de-commitments in the 2025 recruiting class, including four-star wide receivers Malik Clark and Daylan McCutcheon, defensive end Javion Hilson, and defensive tackle Myron Charles.
Currently, they only have a commitment from four-star running back Byron Louis, who has connections to Florida State through his former head coach, now the defensive backs coach, and his high school teammate, four-star cornerback Gregory Thomas, along with four-star offensive lineman Mario Nash Jr.
Despite the setbacks, the coaching staff must maintain high recruiting standards and prevent this class from falling apart, which would jeopardize the positive momentum built over the last two years.
In an effort to support recruiting, head coach Mike Norvell traveled to Gainesville, Georgia, on Friday night to watch Class of 2025 four-star wide receiver commit CJ Wiley, as Milton High School faced off against Gainesville High School.

Wiley is a proven playmaker who must remain a key part of the Seminoles’ recruiting class. Despite exploring other schools, the talented wide receiver has maintained his commitment to Florida State and continues to wear Seminoles gear. It’s crucial for Ron Dugans to keep Wiley on board.
Mike Norvell is certainly doing his part by actively engaging in the recruiting process.
