Washington Commanders standout rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels (ribs) exited Sunday’s victory over the Carolina Panthers due to injury and did not return.
On Wednesday morning, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn shared an update on his star quarterback’s condition.
“He won’t be practicing today… He’ll keep progressing throughout today and tomorrow,” Quinn told the D.C. media before practice.

Jayden Daniels’ health is crucial for the Commanders, as he’s emerging as a potential star. He’s led Washington to the top of the NFC East with a 5-2 record, showing poise with 10 total touchdowns and only two interceptions in his first seven games.
While it doesn’t seem like his injury is severe, his progress throughout the week will be key. If Daniels is unable to play against the 4-2 Chicago Bears this weekend, veteran Marcus Mariota is slated to step in as the starter.
Following the Bears, the Commanders have tough matchups against the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Philadelphia Eagles—games that could go either way. That’s why having Daniels at full strength is vital.
However, Mariota performed well in relief on Sunday, throwing for over 200 yards, multiple touchdowns, and posting a 132.8 passer rating, proving the team is well-rounded no matter who’s under center. Head coach Dan Quinn and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury have done a remarkable job so far with this well-oiled Commanders squad.
