The Chicago Bears strengthened their pass rush before the NFL’s 2023 trade deadline by trading for defensive end Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders in exchange for a second-round pick. Now, just a year later, general manager Ryan Poles appears to be considering a similar move. Erik Lambert from Sportsmockery reported that two players have piqued Poles’ interest as the November 5 trade deadline approaches: Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby. Garrett, a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns, is the current Defensive Player of the Year, with an impressive record of 101 tackles for loss and 92.5 sacks over 107 regular-season games.
However, the Browns are struggling with a 1-6 record and have started trading away top players, including wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills, raising speculation about the team’s direction. It’s uncertain if Cleveland would be willing to trade Garrett, a key player for the franchise. If Chicago aims to acquire him, they would likely need to offer at least one first-round pick, along with additional draft assets—potentially even a second first-rounder. Nevertheless, this could be a worthwhile investment for the Bears, who have multiple valuable picks available in the coming seasons, and could significantly enhance their defense by adding the talented 28-year-old edge rusher. According to Evan Massey of Sports Illustrated, acquiring Garrett would make the Bears a stronger contender in the NFC, improving their pass rush and elevating the defense overall. With an offense that has shown potential, Garrett’s addition could position Chicago as a team to watch in the years ahead. He is currently under a $125 million contract that extends through the 2026 season.
