NFL DONE DEAL: Bears Sign Packers Prospect as First Showdown Approaches just now

The Chicago Bears return from their bye week to take on the Washington Commanders this Sunday. After seven weeks, the Bears have positioned themselves well, sitting at 4-2 in the NFC North. Although they started slowly, the offense found its rhythm with Caleb Williams at quarterback, turning them into a strong contender within the division.

An interesting aspect of the Bears’ schedule is that they won’t face a divisional opponent until Week 11, when they host the Packers. Regardless of their record at that point, the upcoming divisional games will significantly impact playoff positioning, especially in a competitive NFC North.

Ahead of their Week 11 showdown with Green Bay, the Bears added a former Packer to their roster. According to insider Brad Biggs, Chicago signed tight end Joel Wilson to their practice squad, filling the spot left by Tommy Sweeney, who was placed on the practice squad injured reserve.

NFL News: Bears Sign TE Joel Wilson

Joel Wilson initially joined the Packers’ practice squad during the 2023 season but was released in the roster cutdowns ahead of 2024. Although Wilson has yet to make his NFL debut, he has previously been on the practice squads for the Saints, Bills, and Giants.

The 24-year-old Central Michigan alum joins a Bears practice squad that also includes former Packers wide receiver Samori Toure. Currently, the Bears’ active roster has tight ends Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, and Marcedes Lewis, so Wilson’s chance to be elevated will likely depend on an injury to one of these established veterans.
