Green Bay Packers fans were aware their team was dealing with injuries as they began practice this week in preparation for their crucial matchup with the Detroit Lions. However, the list of players absent from Wednesday’s practice was likely longer than anticipated.
Per Ryan Wood of USA TODAY, starting quarterback Jordan Love was one of several Packers who didn’t practice on Wednesday. Love’s absence, following a groin strain he sustained in Week 8, was expected. While the young, mobile quarterback is generally in good health and eager to play on Sunday, it was no surprise he sat out practice.
A standout name on the list, however, was star running back Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs was among the several players absent from practice, following an impressive performance against the Jaguars where he rushed for 127 yards on 25 carries. Quietly emerging as one of the league’s top running backs this season, Jacobs has accumulated 667 rushing yards (ranking fourth in the NFL) and scored three touchdowns. His potential absence would clearly be a significant setback for the offense.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed to reporters on Wednesday that Jacobs missed practice due to an ankle injury sustained against Jacksonville, as reported by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
