The Miami Dolphins have reached a pivotal point in their season. With a win in Week 9, their 3-5 record could place them within reach of the playoff race. However, a loss would put them at 2-6, potentially eliminating them from contention. Following last Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Mike McDaniel commented on the team’s circumstances.
Should Miami lose its divisional matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 9, the team might consider becoming sellers at the trade deadline. Defensive lineman Calais Campbell is a likely candidate to be moved if that happens, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reported that teams have already expressed interest in the veteran. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 5, at 4 p.m. ET.
Now 38 years old, Campbell, a former Defensive Player of the Year, may not be the dominant force he once was but remains a capable player and a strong leader for a playoff-caliber team. Miami signed him in the offseason, and in his first seven games with the team, he has recorded 22 combined tackles, two sacks, three passes defended, and a forced fumble.
Calais Campbell could finish the season on his sixth NFL team in 17 years
The Dolphins are set to face the Bills for their second matchup of the season. In their Week 2 meeting, Tua Tagovailoa sustained a serious concussion and had to exit the game. Before the injury, Tagovailoa was having a tough time against Buffalo’s defense, completing 17 of 25 passes for 145 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Tagovailoa was out until Week 8 due to the injury. Despite his return, Miami narrowly lost to the Cardinals 28-27 last Sunday, dropping their record to 2-5 and placing them third in the AFC East. Following the disappointing loss, Calais Campbell demonstrated his veteran leadership by discussing ways the Dolphins could still turn their season around.
After over a month on the sidelines, Tagovailoa had a solid performance against Arizona, completing 28 of 38 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown, along with 13 rushing yards on three attempts. The Dolphins entered the fourth quarter with a nine-point lead, but the defense allowed two late scoring drives, including a game-winning field goal as time expired.
If the Dolphins continue to struggle in their Week 9 game against the Bills, they might look to trade players at the deadline. Should Campbell be moved, he could finish the season with his sixth NFL team.
