The Miami Dolphins currently sit at 2-6, yet they seem to believe their season is not finished. This would suggest they might hold steady with their roster and see how the remainder of the season unfolds, but that doesn’t seem to be the plan.
After their recent loss to the Buffalo Bills, which pushed their record to 2-6, super-agent Drew Rosenhaus made an appearance on his weekly news segment. His comments could incite frustration among fans, many of whom have been calling for Chris Grier’s dismissal for some time.
Rosenhaus revealed that the Dolphins are actively making calls leading up to the trade deadline, not to offload their players but to bring new talent to the team.
“I can tell you that Chris Grier and the Dolphins have been very proactive in their outreach,” Rosenhaus stated. “While I won’t go into details, I know for a fact that the Dolphins are aggressively trying to improve. They haven’t completed any trades yet, but it’s not for lack of effort.”
He added, “That said, I do not anticipate the Dolphins giving up on the season. I don’t foresee them trading away any of their key players, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they manage to acquire one or two new players.”
Dolphins could be about to make a big mistake at the NFL trade deadline
This situation in Miami is truly perplexing, raising the question of what is really happening with the Dolphins. If something surprising were to occur, it would indeed be shocking—though, given the Dolphins and Grier’s history, perhaps not entirely unexpected.
Looking at the situation optimistically, as Tua Tagovailoa suggests, the Dolphins could still aim for an 11-win season. Achieving that would require them to win all their remaining games, and if the offense performs as it did against the Bills, scoring enough points could make it possible.
However, there are significant defensive issues to address, which may explain why Grier is looking to make moves. With upcoming games against the Packers, 49ers, Texans, and two against the Jets, sweeping all nine games feels unlikely. This week, they face the Rams on the West Coast.
On the flip side, perhaps the Dolphins should focus on acquiring as much talent as possible before Tuesday’s trade deadline. This could suggest that Grier is feeling pressure to save his job, and failing to make necessary changes after past mistakes could prompt owner Stephen Ross to finally take action.
If Rosenhaus’s report is correct and the Dolphins are indeed buyers at the deadline, fans may have reason to be upset—especially if Grier begins to spend future draft picks that a team in Miami’s financial position should be using to build a solid roster.
However, considering Grier’s draft choices often end up on the bench or inactive, one might wonder how significant it is to have those picks in the first place.
