Astros confirm to star from Phillies free agency offseason contract fall in the $175M

The Philadelphia Phillies have recently been linked to standout Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman as a possible destination for the two-time World Series champion.

Phillies could keep tabs on Alex Bregman to potentially replace Alec Bohm

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman reports that Alex Bregman could command a contract of up to $200 million this offseason and is expected to be pursued by multiple teams, especially those who miss out on signing Juan Soto. Seidman suggests, *“Bregman’s contract could land between $175 million and $200 million due to his all-around skills, individual and team achievements, and his position in the market just behind Soto. Matt Chapman’s recent six-year, $151 million extension with the Giants sets a benchmark that Bregman should surpass, either in total value, average annual value, or both. Bregman might benefit from waiting until Soto signs, as teams that miss out on him—like the Yankees, Blue Jays, Giants, Mets, perhaps the Phillies, and possibly the Astros—are likely to turn their focus to Bregman,”* Seidman explained.

Despite the Phillies having an All-Star third baseman in Alec Bohm, recent reports indicate that Phillies president Dave Dombrowski and his front office are open to listening to trade offers for Bohm, as well as right fielder Nick Castellanos and left fielder Brandon Marsh.

Bregman is one of the best offensive & defensive 3rd basemen in the MLB

Alex Bregman stands out as one of MLB’s top offensive and defensive third basemen. In 2024, he received his first Gold Glove Award after leading all American League third basemen with 103 putouts, 242 assists, 23 double plays, and a .972 fielding percentage.

A New Mexico native, Bregman brings a complete package to the infield: championship experience, power at the plate, a consistent batting average, and refined defensive skills—all qualities that could help the Phillies contend for their first World Series in the Bryce Harper era. Although the Phillies may have more pressing needs, Bregman remains a player to watch as the offseason unfolds.
