BREAKING NEWS: Astros key man depart for another league deal just now

The Cleveland Guardians have signed Astros left-hander to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training, the team announced Saturday.

Originally a seventh-round pick by Houston out of Texas Tech in 2017, He spent parts of the past three seasons on the Astros’ roster, recording a 5.45 ERA over 33 innings with a strikeout rate of 17.4%. The 28-year-old was released by Houston in September and became a minor league free agent at season’s end.

In four seasons at the Triple-A level, He has posted a 3.68 ERA and holds a career minor league ERA of 3.47 over 193 games, including 38 starts. Standing 6-foot and weighing 225 pounds, the Texas native is out of minor league options but could provide depth for Cleveland, especially with Sam Hentges expected to miss the 2025 season due to shoulder surgery.

The Guardians’ bullpen also includes left-handers Tim Herrin and Erik Sabrowski, both of whom had strong 2024 seasons.
