What they’re saying nationally about Penn State football at end of 2024 season

Penn State vs Boise State, Fiesta Bowl, Dec. 31, 2024
Penn State head coach James Franklin protests a call in the third quarter of the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31, 2024.

Penn State had a plenty successful 2024 season, finishing out with a narrow loss to national runner-up Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. The Nittany Lions came away with a No. 5 ranking in the final AP Poll, the highest in James Franklin’s 11 years at the helm.

They’ve now built on that momentum, retaining almost all of the eligible talent remaining from the team, minus the obvious loss off Abdul Carter and a bit of a surprising NFL Draft declaration for Kobe King.

As such, Penn State has been a buzzworthy team as national pundits try to project next season on a way-too-early basis. The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel even had the Lions as his No. 1 overall team entering 2025.

So, let’s take a look. What are people saying about Penn State now that the 2024 season has come to a close?
