Fremantle Dockers vice-captain Caleb Serong has revealed his lighthearted but persistent campaign to encourage fellow midfield star Andrew Brayshaw to sign a contract extension with the club. Serong, who is a close friend and teammate of Brayshaw, jokingly admitted to “badgering him every day” in an effort to secure his commitment to Fremantle for the long term.
“Andrew’s such an important part of our team. I’ve been in his ear every day, just reminding him how much we all want him to stay,” Serong shared in a recent interview. “It’s all in good fun, but I think everyone at the club would agree we’d love to see him extend his time here and keep building something special.”
Brayshaw, who is contracted with the Dockers until the end of 2025, has become one of the league’s premier midfielders. Since his debut in 2018, he has been an integral part of Fremantle’s engine room and has earned numerous accolades, including the AFL Players’ Association MVP Award in 2022.
Despite having two years remaining on his deal, Brayshaw’s long-term future has been a point of discussion among fans and analysts, given his pivotal role in Fremantle’s plans for sustained success.
Serong, who himself signed a four-year contract extension in December 2022 to remain at Fremantle until the end of 2027, emphasized the importance of continuity within the team’s core group. “We’re building something really exciting here,” Serong said. “Having leaders like Andy committed long-term is key to taking that next step as a group.”
Brayshaw has yet to publicly comment on his plans regarding an extension, but his bond with Fremantle is evident both on and off the field. Known for his professionalism, leadership, and ability to inspire teammates, Brayshaw has been a co-vice captain alongside Serong and Alex Pearce since 2023.
Fremantle fans are optimistic that Brayshaw will follow in Serong’s footsteps and lock in a long-term future with the club. The two midfield dynamos have formed a formidable partnership, consistently driving the Dockers’ success with their work rate, skill, and determination.
As the Dockers continue their push toward finals contention, securing Brayshaw for the long haul would be a significant boost to the club’s aspirations. For now, Serong’s playful persistence reflects the strong camaraderie and culture within the Fremantle ranks—an intangible quality that could ultimately persuade Brayshaw to remain in purple and white for years to come.
