This week in the NHL has seen plenty of physical play, and the Boston Bruins, both past and present, are no exception.
Former Bruins defenseman Jeremy Lauzon found himself in a tough spot during the Nashville Predators’ rough 5-1 defeat to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. He got into a scrap with Oilers winger Vasily Podkolzin early in the third period, leading to both players dropping their gloves.
Unfortunately for Lauzon, that decision backfired when Podkolzin landed a hard right punch that sent him to the ice and left him bloodied.
While Lauzon deserves credit for engaging in the fight, he’s not known for his pugilistic skills; he recorded just one fighting major last season with the Predators and only dropped the gloves twice in his three years with the Bruins. Podkolzin isn’t known for fighting either; in fact, his only other NHL fighting major came nearly two years ago when he faced off against then-Bruins winger A.J. Greer in Boston while he was with Vancouver.
The fight compounded Lauzon’s woes, as he was on the ice for two of the Oilers’ goals, with the Predators being outshot 11-5 during his 15:04 on the ice.
