It’s a “perfect storm” of sorts for two teams that made a trade just before today’s NFL deadline. The New Orleans Saints, who recently fired head coach Dennis Allen and are struggling, are in fire-sale mode. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders, under first-year coach Dan Quinn, have been openly seeking cornerback help as they aim for playoff contention. As a result, New Orleans traded cornerback Marshon Lattimore (along with a 2025 fifth-round draft pick) to Washington for third-, fourth-, and sixth-round picks in next year’s NFL Draft. The trade’s value hinges on whether Lattimore, a four-time Pro Bowler who has been dealing with a hamstring injury this season, can elevate the Commanders’ defense. Lattimore has missed two games, including last week’s surprising loss to the Panthers.
Now, Lattimore moves from a struggling team on a seven-game losing streak to a 7-2 division leader. The Saints are likely satisfied with a third-round pick in exchange for him, while Washington is looking to improve their roster for a deeper playoff run.
