The Chicago Bears entered their bye week with a 4-2 record following a decisive 35-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 13. However, after two games, they have fallen to 4-4 due to consecutive losses against the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals.
Head coach Matt Eberflus and his staff faced sharp criticism from the media and even some team captains for decisions in the Commanders’ 18-15 victory. In Week 9, the Cardinals defeated Chicago handily, 29-9, at State Farm Stadium.
Many Chicago fans are calling for Eberflus to be fired, citing his 14-28 record over three seasons. However, according to Adam Rank from the NFL Network, general manager Ryan Poles plans to keep Eberflus for the 2025 season, as his contract, signed in 2022, reportedly runs through 2026.
In a recent appearance on “The Sick Podcast with Adam Rank,” Rank noted that Eberflus might have a five-year contract, making his position more secure. He mentioned speaking with sources close to Poles who suggested that, regardless of circumstances, Eberflus is expected to stay. They indicated the team is unwilling to repeat the cycle that saw players like Justin Fields, Mitch Trubisky, and Rex Grossman faced with constant turnover.
Currently, the Bears hold the No. 8 spot in the NFC, narrowly missing the playoff cutoff as they prepare for their Week 10 game against the 2-7 New England Patriots.
