The latest episode of the Bears Banter Podcast is here!
The Chicago Bears have hit a rough patch. After starting 4-2, they’ve lost two in a row, and with a challenging final eight games ahead, fans are growing uneasy.
What could this mean for head coach Matt Eberflus? ESPN’s David Kaplan joined the podcast to weigh in on whether Eberflus is the right fit and if the Bears might consider moving on despite him having two years left on his contract.
While I’m still unsure if the Bears would take that step—having only done it once in their 105-year history—Kaplan believes they would if it seemed necessary.
“With Forbes now valuing the franchise at over $5 billion, close to $6 billion, that coach’s $5 or $6 million salary is basically pocket change to an NFL team,” Kaplan explained. “If they made a bad hire, that’s a sunk cost. Pay him and move on if that’s the decision. I’m not calling for his immediate firing, but if I were the owner, I’d change coaches. The money shouldn’t matter.”
It’s a compelling discussion with Kaplan. You can watch the full podcast on the 2nd City Gridiron YouTube channel or listen to the audio version on the 2nd City Gridiron podcast feed, available wherever you get your podcasts.
