The Boston Red Sox appear poised to make a big push this offseason. After falling short of last year’s goal for a “full throttle” winter, the front office is once again focused on significant roster improvements to aim for a playoff return. Reporting from the GM Meetings, Alex Speier of the *Boston Globe* shared that there’s a strong belief that Boston has the potential to trade for almost anyone, with White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet being a top target. Crochet, an All-Star in his first year as a starter with 209 strikeouts, is seen as the most exciting option due to Chicago’s ongoing rebuild, which has made him available.
Cody Williams from *FanSided* has suggested a major trade package to acquire Crochet, involving Wilyer Abreu, Kutter Crawford, Franklin Arias, and David Sandlin in a four-for-one deal. Williams notes that Crawford, who recently completed 33 starts with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.112 WHIP, would immediately bolster Chicago’s rotation, while Abreu could be the deciding factor for the White Sox.
While Boston would be giving up valuable players like Crawford and Abreu, this potential trade would allow the Red Sox to keep top prospects Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer, Kristian Campbell, and Kyle Teel. Williams argues that Crochet would provide the ace Boston’s rotation has been missing due to Chris Sale’s injury history, while still preserving the core prospects for the future. Pairing this move with further spending and additional trades could create an ideal scenario for Boston, while also helping the White Sox acquire key pieces for their rebuild.
