The roster on Wednesday was unchanged from Tuesday.
Howie Roseman has been proactive at past trade deadlines, making moves like acquiring Jay Ajayi in 2017, Golden Tate in 2018, Robert Quinn in 2022, and Kevin Byard in 2023. However, the results have been mixed.
This year, the trade deadline passed on Tuesday at 4 p.m. without the Eagles making any moves. Given the mixed success of past trades like those for Quinn, Avery, and Tate, this may have been a wise decision.
On Wednesday, head coach Nick Sirianni explained the lack of moves simply: the team didn’t need to make one.
“I think that’d be a good question for Howie,” Sirianni said. “I know you won’t get him until the end of the year. But speaking for myself, I feel really strongly about our team and where we are. I truly believe in the team we’ve built, and Howie has done a great job getting us here, so it didn’t feel like there was anything to address at that point.”
The Eagles also don’t have many draft picks for 2025, having traded a 3rd-rounder to Washington for Jahan Dotson in August, leaving them with only 1st- and 2nd-round picks, the lesser of two 3rd-round picks, one 4th, and three 5th-round selections.
More importantly, there isn’t an obvious area of need that would have justified giving up a pick for a player who might not make a significant impact.
At 6-2, riding a four-game winning streak, and ranked 6th in offense and 3rd in defense, the Eagles are heading into a Sunday game against the Cowboys. They have no immediate needs at quarterback, tight end, running back, or offensive line, and they already traded for a wide receiver. On defense, their secondary is strong, the linebackers are excelling, and the front line has been performing well.
While some players were available, the need didn’t justify the cost to acquire them.
“I feel really good about the people we have here,” Sirianni said. “I feel confident in the starters and the depth at each position, which reflects the great work that Howie and his staff have done from the draft to now.”
