The Green Bay Packers aim to extend their 10-game winning streak against the Chicago Bears on Sunday in what will be the 209th all-time meeting between these storied franchises.
Green Bay’s offense could unveil a fresh element this week. Veteran running back Josh Jacobs has been as reliable as expected in his debut season with the Packers, amassing 762 rushing yards on 158 carries. Jacobs has also contributed in the passing game, tallying 19 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown. A strong performance from Jacobs and the Packers’ rushing attack will be pivotal, especially given that Chicago’s defense has allowed an average of 175 rushing yards per game over its last three outings.
The Packers might also have another weapon in their backfield by Sunday. According to Packers Senior Writer Wes Hodkiewicz, head coach Matt LaFleur hinted that the team’s open roster spot will likely go to rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd. LaFleur noted that having four running backs is a “good problem to have.”
Lloyd, who returned to practice on Wednesday after being designated to return from injured reserve earlier in the week, has faced multiple setbacks in his young NFL career. A hamstring injury sidelined him during the preseason and season opener, and an ankle injury landed him on IR in September. With 21 days to activate him, the Packers are hopeful Lloyd can rejoin the rotation soon.
Drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft to be the RB2, Lloyd was brought in to deliver explosive plays out of the backfield. His return could be a significant boost for the Packers as they gear up for the second half of the season.
